NATO means North Atlantic Treaty Organization signed by democratic nations in Europe and North America.
NORAD means North American Air Defense System aimed to protect North America from air or nuclear attack from Russia.
Warsaw Pact means an alliance created to protect each other from a NATO country

Canada got involved in the Suez Crisis by going to United Nations to request that UNEF be created but British and France rejected the idea, so Canada turned to USA. After several days with tense diplomacy, UNEF was created, and several troops were sent to Suez to keep the peace in order so political settlement can be worked out without violence. Suez Crisis started on July 26 1956 and ended in April 24 1957.
The Cold War ended in 1991, a year after the Soviets went bankrupt and could not keep up with the arms race. They could not afford to produce basic goods, and the economy collapsed.
